Help & FAQ

Learn how GulfWatch.ai works, where our data comes from, and why you can trust the alerts you see on this platform.

What is GulfWatch.ai?

GulfWatch.ai is a free, community-driven platform that monitors danger alerts across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It aggregates information from multiple independent sources and displays it on an interactive map so you can quickly assess the safety situation in your area.

How does the alert system work?

Our system uses a three-phase automated pipeline to evaluate and generate alerts:

  1. Data Collection — We continuously monitor multiple independent sources including international news agencies, government travel advisories, disaster monitoring systems, and curated regional channels.
  2. Analysis & Filtering — Each incoming report is analyzed for relevant keywords and then verified for geographic relevance to ensure it actually pertains to a GCC country or specific region. Reports about unrelated regions are automatically filtered out.
  3. Alert Generation — Verified reports are mapped to specific regions on the map. When multiple independent sources report the same event, the alert severity is automatically escalated to reflect increased confidence.

This multi-layered approach minimizes false positives while ensuring genuine threats are surfaced quickly.

Where does the data come from?

We aggregate data from several categories of sources to ensure broad coverage:

  • International news agencies and media outlets covering the Middle East region
  • Government travel advisories and official safety bulletins
  • Global disaster monitoring and alert systems
  • Curated regional channels providing on-the-ground reports

By combining multiple independent sources, we reduce the risk of missing critical events and can cross-verify information for accuracy.

What do the severity levels mean?

Each alert is assigned a severity level based on the nature of the threat and the number of independent sources reporting it:

WarningConfirmed active threat reported by multiple independent sources. Take immediate precautions.
WatchDeveloping situation corroborated by at least two sources. Stay alert and monitor updates.
AdvisoryInitial report from a single source. Be aware but await further confirmation.

What types of alerts are shown?

The platform currently monitors three categories of danger alerts:

🚀Air raid alerts — missile or aerial attack warnings
💥Artillery shelling — ground-based bombardment risks
🚨Security alerts — general security threats and incidents

Can I trust this information?

We take several measures to ensure reliability:

  • Multiple independent sources are monitored simultaneously, reducing single points of failure
  • Geographic relevance filtering ensures alerts only appear for areas they actually affect
  • Cross-source verification automatically escalates severity when multiple sources confirm the same event
  • Alerts expire automatically after a set period unless refreshed by new reports, preventing stale information

Is there a delay in alerts?

There may be a short delay between an event occurring and an alert appearing on the platform. This depends on how quickly our sources report the event. Typically, alerts appear within minutes of the first source report. Always follow official government instructions and local emergency services for the most immediate guidance.
